Last year USA Hockey announced a new "refresher" course for your SafeSport certification, but that does not come into affect until 2020, to help clarify that USA Hockey has made the following additional statement:

"if you took the SafeSport training last year, 2018, your certification is good until August 31st, 2020, but if your current certification expires August 31st, 2019 you will need to take the full training program by August 31st, 2019, however it will only be good for one year. Instead of what has been a two years certification, starting in 2020 everyone will be required to re-certify annually by taking a "re-fresher" course."
